Flat Plans and rationales

This is a flat-plan of my double page spread. The main title will be the artists name so that the reader knows whom the article is about, It will also be in red. This will attract the readers attention.
These are called key words, they are bigger then the rest and make up the main title.
The top right will carry a quote of what  the article is about and  of what my artist has said, this should give the reader a feel of the article and of the subject matter.
I'm going to use a font called Arial, this is because it is modern and recognised as a font that is easy to read.  I'm going to place elements in diagnoses in my layout, this is to give an energetic layout, therefore making the spread and the article seem more interesting with a modern feel.
The key vocal points on my double page spread of the article,  will be  the commentary of the pictures. The images have a laid back feel with a very tourist look, this is due to the article being about a European tour.
The make up is going to be natural and basic due to the reasoning that, i dont want my magazine to look as if the pictures are to polished and professional, the whole point of my double page spread it to make the audience relate to my artist and show her on tour.
The camera angles will all be long shots or medium to show the surroundings, you will also see her face.
The picture connotations that will be carried, are what my artist has said about her events on tour so far. it will be an exclusive for the magazine, but i also want the article to feel personal to the reader and magazine buyers.
Using red for the title will make the headline stand off the page. For the background I want to use a beige/cream/brown colour scheme for classic effect. It will be easy to find colours that dont clash with the colour scheme. The connotations of the background will be a natural with a modern feel to the page.

For the masthead CMM I'm going to use black with a white border, then red in the middle. This will make it stand off the shelf and draw readers attention to it. The connotation of red in the title denotes, warning/danger.
On the side im going to use an odd number, this is to attract readers attention, this is not the usual, but people will remember it, there is also a theory that consumers "believe" odd numbers when used in calculating polls and when compiling surveys (odd numbers are more believable) this number will be in gold. I am also going to use the colour red for the words 'inside' so people will see it and read what is inside because it is an important deal for choosing a magazine. I will use artist that my target audience will like for example Kate Bush.
On the main cover line im going to have one part of the text another colour and font to my models actual name because it will make it stand out and my target audience will see her name and automatically will want my magazine.
In the top right hand corner im putting a barcode and an website link because it makes the magazine look realistic.
The fonts im going to use are not going to be serif im going to use san serif fonts because serif fonts look old fashioned and I want a more young vibe to my magazine.
The image im going to use is going to be close up\medium shot so people can see who the artist is and it gives a professional feel. My model will have a natural look because thats what feel my magazine tries to get across.
For the background of my contents, Im going to use the same colour throughout my magazine background so that it is consistent and the readers have familiarity throughout the magazine.
The word 'Contents' will be in red because it will stand out so the readers know what page it is. The opening paragraph will be in black and arial font because it is easy to read. I am going to have the 'Lucy X' in a script font so it looks like I have actually hand wrote my signature, this gives a personal feel to it. In the part where it has what is inside my magazine it will be bold because it will stand out and then underneath have it not bold, I will go into more detail about the bold title.
The information about subscribing will be red so it looks like important information to the reader and will stand out. Im going to use pictures of some of the albums featured inside so people know what to expect. There will be images of other CMM front covers on the side to show people what is coming up so they will want to subscribe.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think that the NME magazine ( http://www.nme.com/ ) relates to my magazine IPC media publish it. It produces over 60 iconic media brands. There main three targets are: men, mass market women and upmarket women. The names you might recognise are Now!, Pick me up and  Women's own. They cover loads of different genre's and mine would fit in perfectly because it is like some of the genres they do such as NME. There are many ways they distribute their magazines such as apps,
subscriptions and in shops. This is the website that gives you information about it http://www.ipcmedia.com/about/

Research

The questionnaire I got 20 people to fill out gave me a lot of useful feedback. It helped me decide the price and colour scheme. It also let me prioritise my time because I found out peoples best part of the magazine and what age and what gender should be my target audience.
I found out that the majority were female and aged between 16-18. The minority dont read them often and the prices which were the most popular were ranged between £1 to £2. The best parts they thought were the fashion sections and interviews with their favourite celebrities. The colours people seemed to put down were blacks, reds, and neutral colours.
When doing my magazine I am going to take this into consideration.

Looking back at your preliminary task (the school/college magazine task) what do you feel you have learnt in progression from that to your full product?

Untitled Project     <<<<<<<<<< This is a link to my Preliminary task, its a video of my task.

I know now that i need a image that is better quality that will make the magazine more professional. The layout needs to be more professinal. This includes the way I have set out the sell headlines, instead of putting them in circles i've set it out in a way of stretch and close together. It gives it more of a professional and modern look. I changed the font because it was not the font which suited the genre of my magazine. It was also too big.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

This is a picture of some of the equipment I used. I used a hard drive to back up my work, a keyboard, mouse, screen and monitor

This is a picture of the country genre which didn't work out as you can see. The picture and texts didn't go together well thats why I decided to change my genre.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I used blogger as part of my evaluation stage. Without this I would not be able to post my evaluation posts, pictures, powerpoint's and videos online.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Without Facebook I wouldn't of been able to ask Kim and others if I could take their pictures.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

If i never used Photoshop my magazine wouldn't of been as good quality and as professional as it is. Photoshop. I was able to create lots of different ways of texts and editing.

How did you attract/address your audience ?

I think my CMM sign will attract my target audience because the style it is written in and it will attract my audience because it will stand out on the shelf because of the colour use and the size.

This will attract my audience because of the genre of music. All the artists I have seleceted will appeal and attract to my audience. The way it is written looks modern which will also make the buyers read what is says.
The cover artist I have used will make the audience pick the magazine up. She looks happy and like she can relate to the reader. Her pose is very approachable which will also appeal to my audience as they do not want to feel offended looking at the magazine.
The piece of text in quotation marks will appeal to my audience. “I’ve never had everything on a plate handed to me” because the reader is stereotypically working class. My audience are in the same boat as she once was and would aspire to her because they can relate to her and the quote.
‘Bring on the champers!’ makes my model seem down to earth and a lot like the audience. It shows she is not stuck up and loves having a good time just like my audience. They will take a shine to her because they can see similarities between my model and themselves.

The album covers I have used on my contents page will attract the reader because it will be the kind of music and genres they are into. It will make them want to buy the magazine because they are interested in albums and they wonder if there are any other artists or bands they may like or if the person they are a fan off has any new singles or albums.
The colours will attract the audience because it really stands out. The cheapness of the subscription will stand out to my audience because they do not have loads of money to blow on magazines and this subscription to my magazine will appeal to them. I done this because it attracts attention to it. The colours red and black suggest that it is an important piece of information.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The similarities and differences between my magazine and the Rolling Stones magazine: One is that the closeness of the image is a close up on mine and the Rolling Stones magazine. They both have outfits on that draw attention to their face because the outfits they have on are not attention grabbing and they are both plain. The posture they are doing are both very relaxed, it has a laidback feel. Also they are both showing teeth with a side of their mouth more raised than the other side. This gives them an edgy look. On the Rolling Stone magazine Pinks hair and leather jacket give her a rock/edgy look whilst mine has her hair tied back and a plain white t-shirt which gives her a suttle, girly look. When you look at Pink she looks like she stands up for herself she has this ‘hard’ look about her. People will aspire to her because she doesn’t care what people think and stands up for herself. On my magazine she looks more fragile than Pink, the audience will relate and aspire to my model because she looks like ‘the girl next door’.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Who might be the audience for your media product?

This is a example of a girl who would be my perfect target audience. She is young and trendy . She is on trend and loves latest fashion and music. She likes to spend her time with her friends, going out and spending time at concerts. They would spend their money on the latest fashion and cds. She would shop and go out at the high street fashion shops such as Topshop. She would listen to pop/indie such as mainstream artists like Rihanna but then listen to music more indie. Her favourite TV programs would be programmes like Desperate Housewives, Only Way Is Essex and Eastenders. They would buy my magazine because it would appeal to them. It would have the same interests and the same tastes.
I have decided to change my theme of country and go for a pop magazine because I had a lot of problems doing the country magazine.
